Probably one of the most unique weddings I have had the absolute pleasure of capturing. Rachel and Neil contacted me originally to see if I would be available for a three day music festival in Shropshire which they had organised for her birthday celebrations. The weekend would also include many different activities such as laughter yoga, crystal healing, drum workshops, and live music from the Bluetones, Mark Morriss, The Dusk Brothers among others.
But the key event of the weekend would be Rachel and Neil renewing their vows under the old Oak trees for a traditional hand-fasting ceremony. Hand-fasting is a symbolic unity ritual in which a couple stand face to face as their hands are tied together - hence the phrase, tying the knot!. As your hands are bound, you can recite words that express your commitment to one another. Hand-fasting rituals are associated with Pagan ceremonies, but are now often seen in secular, spiritual, and even some Christian ceremonies.
The venue was literally a farmer's field just outside Shrewsbury with tents, caravans, marquees and very much a festival feel. The first day was filled with music in the main marquee with an outdoor fire and singing going on into the very early hours of the morning.
